Cheeky fast casual restaurant concept, What Da Duck, opens on 3 Sep for eight weeks as part of the PMQ Taste Kitchen F&B incubator, in partnership with entrepreneurial icon Twins Kitchen. Aromatic crispy duck paired with pancakes as well as a selection of classic takeaway snacks in a vibrant relaxed setting will make this a fun new eatery for the Hong Kong dining scene.

Choose from a quarter, half or a whole duck with a selection of pancakes and a range of delicious sauces. Go big with a selection of Chinese takeaway classics: prawn toast, fried crab claws, fried wontons and more.

Founders Amy Mak and Jaicy Cheng have been friends for almost a decade, meeting when they both worked at BOOM Magazine, where they both discovered their love of food! Fast forward a few years and they’re finally realising the dreams they cooked up all those years ago. “I grew up in the UK,” says Amy Mak, “and even though I love Hong Kong, I’ve always missed the Chinese takeaway food I grew up with – it’s surprisingly hard to get here! That’s when Jaicy and I dreamed up the idea of What Da Duck to serve Hong Kong my childhood favourites in a fun, easy and affordable way.”

Instead of the more familiar roasted Peking Duck, Mak and Cheng are serving up the version more commonly found in restaurants in overseas Chinese communities. Whole ducks are lovingly marinated then deep-fried to create a mouthwatering mix of crispy duck skin with tender and warmly spiced duck meat.

“Duck here in Hong Kong is such a luxury,” adds Jaicy, “You really only get it on really special occasions. But everyone loves ducks in pancakes. What we wanted to do was to make this Hong Kong / UK classic an everyday treat that anyone can have, without needing to go to a high-end restaurant”
