In Korean culture, the sound of pan-frying scallion pancakes is similar to the sound of raining. Therefore, Koreans associate pancakes with rainy days.
In addition, according to some legends, farmers gathered together and enjoyed Makgeolli during the rainy days. Over time, this evolved into a Korean tradition of enjoying Makgeolli with scallion pancakes on rainy days.
PMQ Taste Library and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong together invited Mr Choi Jun Woo as an instructor to introduce the traditional rainy-days-food culture in Korea.
Participants may also participate in part of the processes of making Pajeon (scallion pancakes) and Geotjeoli (fresh kimchi) and pairing with makgeolli.
