Introduction of Seminar

The talk will be on the history of Hollywood Road since 1842, how it was developed to the present location. A few stories on Hollywood Road will be selected to show its characteristic. The Eastern and Western methods of dispute solving, the bilingual study and development of football, the Chinese operas and Western movies, the public open space activities were all happened along Hollywood Road.

Introduction of Speaker

Mr. MA Koon-yiu was a structural engineer with the Hong Kong Government before his retirement in 2005. He immediately took a course in Chinese History at the University of Hong Kong where he obtained his Master of Arts in Chinese Historical Studies. He went into study of the engineering history of Hong Kong where he had published several books on the history of Hong Kong, viz. History of Hong Kong Engineering Book I and II, the History of Prestige Buildings in Hong Kong and the Land Transport of Hong Kong before the Second World War. Mr. Ma is now Vice Chairman of the Master of Arts in Chinese Historical Studies Alumni of the University of Hong Kong.
