Pearls became commercially important in the 1920s worldwide. From the 1930s through the 1980s, pearl culturing diversified and spread to various countries around the globe. Meanwhile Cloisonné, also known as enameling, is an art technique that is mainly used to decorate metal objects. It is thought that the technique originated along the Silk Road and was introduced to the Chinese during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Participants will learn basic metalsmith and enamel techniques together with traditional jewellery setting skills to create their own pair of enamel and pearl earrings.
Finished Product: Sterling silver, enamel, and pearl earrings.
