This course will introduce students to fundamental casting processes and focus on familiarizing them with hard and soft wax working techniques. Students will complete their own simple jewellery set by finishing and assembling the metal cast elements as in regular jewelry production.
Students will learn basic wax carving skills with hard wax. Out of this model a cast object will be obtained, using the lost wax process. After the casting students will learn how to finish the casted object. In this exercise students will learn to be precise, they will train their “eyes”, work on symmetry, learn how to file, sand and finish wax models, learn how to use ball burr to lighten the object. Also the basic problem of shrinkage of the once casted object will be explained.
