Co-organized by PMQ and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Hong Kong, and supported by the Poster Museum in Wilanów, the “Posterized: Warsaw International Poster Biennale in Hong Kong” exhibition brought the legendary Biennale to Hong Kong for the very first time. This feast of award-winning works spanning over 50 years was held from 26 March to 18 April at PMQ‘s QUBE.
Established in 1966, the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw is one of the most historical and prestigious events in the world dedicated to the art and exchange of posters, and strives to highlight the finest achievements in poster design by artists from around the world.
The exhibition’s curators, Agnieszka Mori and Max Skorwider, selected 140 award-winning works from the Biennale, representing around 120 designers from 23 countries and regions. Collectively, they reflect the ideological, cultural and commercial value of posters. Exhibited alongside key visual designs and historical photos of the past editions, they immerse visitors into a rare retrospective that transcends place and time. A variety of programs was hosted concurrently with the exhibition, including movie screening, DIY workshop and guided tours.
Notable works include masterpieces by key figures of the Polish Poster School such as Henryk Tomaszewski, Jan Lenica and Waldemar Świerzy, Japanese design masters Yusaku Kamekura and Ikko Tanaka, Pop Art icon Andy Warhol, and cutting-edge French design collective GRAPUS.
