PMQ Taste Library and MUM are pleased to invite you to step into the world of Shojinryori in a cooking workshop with Aso Renia Sensei. Introduced from China to Japan and become widespread in the 13th century under the influence of Zen Buddhism, Shojinryori is a kind of traditional vegetarian cuisine in Japan. Shojinryori professional Aso Renia Sensei, accompanied with Mr. Craig Au-Yeung, curator of PMQ Taste Library, will visit the local wet market in Central and select fresh ingredients for the workshop. The workshop begins with Aso Sensei introducing the history and cultural background of Shojinryori. A cooking demonstration followed and participants will be tasting the dishes at the end of the workshop.
Aso Sensei is the founder of a cooking studio focusing on Shojinryori in Japan and a part-time university lecturer teaching Japanese food history. She was exposed to Shojinryori after marriage when visiting her husband’s parent home, which is a temple. Her interest in Japanese traditional cuisines, especially in Shojinryori, thus grew gradually. Dedicated to promote the culture of Shojinryori in Japan, she established her cooking studio in 2011, teaching students how to present concepts of Shojinryori on the modern dining table. If you would like to meet Aso Sensei in person and learn more about Shojinryori, this is a must-go Workshop for you!
Language: Conducted mainly in Cantonese and Japanese
Limited seats available, prior registration required!
