“City” and “Village” are concepts that seem completely distinct from each other. In fact, the more developed cities become, the greater the need for rural villages grows. We are in need of a place which provides us with fresh vegetables, increases our understanding of our nature and gives us a rethink of the multiplicity of ways of living.
In August, a group of secondary school students and university students participated in “Northeastern New Territories: Summer Holiday on Our Land”, which is run by Commercial Radio-FM903. They paid a visit to villages located in the northeastern New Territories, namely Ma Shi Po, Ping Che and Kwu Tong. Students gained understanding of Hong Kong’s agriculture industry, became acquainted with villagers, and listened to the sharing by photographers and mentors. Students were further divided into small groups and made videos in which audience can catch a glimpse of villagers’ lives.
17 creative units were invited to take part in “Northeastern New Territories: Our Land” Roving Exhibition and they contributed to the discussion through various forms of artworks on the theme of “The Northeastern New Territories”. Development and redevelopment are not simply restricted to the northeastern part of the New Territories, while issues about the Northeast New Territories do not only revolve around villagers living there. Artworks will be displayed in different parts of Hong Kong. Participating artists include Tiana Wong, Chu Fun, Pak Sheung Chuen, Roy Tsui, Joey Leung, Thickest Choi, Wong Hiu Fung Apple, Montagut Chuen, Hong Kong Wrapper, Bu, Serrini, Ricky Lai, fungtaitau, Southpolep, Dirty Paper, Graphic Airlines, Showroom@New Youth Barber Shop.
