About Exhibition

“My Previous Shell” is a solo exhibition by Emily Choy Hoi Ying, continuing from her graduation work “The Snail and The Butterfly”. Centered around the themes of snails and shells, the exhibition records the small, incidental encounters the artist experienced during her explorations this past year:

The snail farewells to its previous shell, and slowly making its way along a small path.

Along the way, it encounters various sights –
A star that cries out of loneliness,
a weird-shaped yet kind-hearted tree,
a shell that looks like a strawberry mochi…

The snail continues its progress down the path,
hoping to encounter its next shell along the way.

About Artist

Choy Hoi Ying Emily
Emily CHOY is a Hong Kong based artist who works primarily with printmaking, painting and sculpture. Her work centres around the themes of community and characters, and is often inspired by a wide range of sources, including daily life, tarots, literature and pop culture.
With her causal and cartoonish drawing style, Emily hopes that her work resembles a series of parables that evoke a sense of childlike innocence and simplicity, while still providing meaningful insights for her audience.

Presented by Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in collaboration with PMQ as partner venue. Previously known as the Hong Kong New Artist Series, Hong Kong Young Artist Series –Art Chong In Lane brings a piece of the JCCAC art village to PMQ through a comprehensive range of art experiences combining art exhibitions, workshops, art collecting and souvenir shop.
