This week, founder of Sook (Korean private kitchen) will teach you how to make two Korean desserts – Maejakgwa (Fried Twist Cookie) and Yaksik (Sweet Sticky Rice with Chestnuts and Jujubes). Maejakgwa is made from flour, honey and fried in oil. It is then sweetened with syrup and it is named after its shape which is said to resemble a sparrow sitting on a plum tree.
While Yaksik (literally medicinal food) is a sweet Korean dish made by steaming glutinous rice, and mixing with chestnuts, jujubes, and pine nuts. It is traditionally eaten on Jeongwol Daeboreum (정월대보름), a Korean holiday which falls on every 15 January in the lunar calendar. The class is free of charge. Register Now!
