Indigo is an indispensable colour in the natural dye world. Without it, the colour spectrum will never be complete. Over the years, indigo vat has been overcast by mystery due to the lack of understanding of the chemical reaction in the process. In this workshop, we will demystify the indigo vat making process and participants will learn how to make an organic indigo vat without any harsh chemicals. We will also go through how to take care of the vat after you start your vat at home, studio or school so that it can stay ‘healthy’ for a long time. While we let the indigo vat to “brew”, we will learn some shibori (tie dye) techniques to try out the new indigo vat.
