Save the last dance for me is the fruition of Alessandro Sciarroni’s investigation of an Italian folk dance, Polka Chinata. With a history dating back to the early 1900s, Polka Chinata is a courtship dance typically performed by men who embrace and whirl while bending their knees to the ground. In saving the traditional dance from extinction, Sciarroni created a duet performance and a series of open workshops to promote and revive this once-popular tradition.
