Layers of K-Art” showcases the representative works of four Korean contemporary Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting) artists curated in a manner that matches their artworks with traditional Korean ceramics: Kim Taeksang in celadon, Park Jongkyu in raised-relief celadon, Kim Keun Tai in buncheong ware, and Kim Tschoon Su in blue and white porcelain. They move beyond the trends of early monochrome painting, exhibiting a dynamism reflective of “K-art” in a global context while maintaining a high regard for tradition and spirituality as the foundation of their artwork. Through showcasing the activity of creating various interpretations of the archetype of Korean beauty, they aim to match their work with the high-quality ceramics housed in the Sungkyunkwan University Museum, intending to establish a sustainable aesthetics for creative endeavors.
