12 May 2022 (Thursday)
6:00pm
For the first of its cross-perspectives talks, the Consulate General of France invites experts to exchange views on heritage in an online event on May 12th 2022 at 6:00 PM.
The discussion among experts shall rely on the cross analysis of the restauration of PMQ in Hong Kong and La Samaritaine in Paris to explore the challenges and stakes of revitalising heritage through adaptive re-use.
Is freezing it in time the best way to preserve heritage? How to bring back life into a building that no longer serves its initial purpose? What is the best way to rebuild a monument that endured the passing of time? How to reconcile modern architecture with the identity of a historic building?
To answer all those questions and more, Senior Architect from ArchSD TSANG Wai Lun and Head of Heritage and Architecture at La Samaritaine Nicolas FOUCRIER will be joining us. Under the moderation of Maxime DECAUDIN, Adjunct Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture at Hong Kong University, they shall analyse the restoration projects of La Samaritaine and PMQ, drawing light on the innovative thinking and constructive solutions that were found by both parties.
