Enamelling is one of the most recognised enamelling techniques. In champlevé enameling, a design is etched, cast, or carved into the metal substrate, and then filled with frit, a powdered glassy material. The metal object is then fired in a kiln, causing the frit to melt and fuse with the metal surface, creating a beautiful and durable enamel surface.It is a versatile technique that can be used to decorate a wide range of metal objects, from jewelry to decorative objects.

The term champlevé comes from the two French words “champ,” a field, and “levé,” raised. In this technique raised fields, or areas of metal, are incorporated into the finished design and the enamel is inlayed into recessed compartments.

During the workshop, you will learn about the wet processing technique and receive guidance on how to apply the transparent enamel color.
