This event at PMQ will be one of a serial events organised by “Island Talks” during Art Basel Hong Kong 2018 period. This talk will focus on the phenomenal popularisation of cartoon and comics in China since 1980s and its mutual impact on Chinese contemporary art, graphic design and pop culture in China.
To understand the uniqueness of this topic to China, we will also compare it with similar but identically different scenes happened in Japan. This event will be organised in form of penal discussion in Mandarin and Japanese.

“Island Talks” (“島聚沙龍”) is a non-profit art-and-culture project initiated by Chris WAN FENG, an independent curator who lives and works in Hong Kong. This project aims to facilitate discussion of well curated topics on art and culture in Great China Region by bringing in cross-principle professionals and intellectuals as guest speaker. Since founded in 2016, “Island Talks” has held more than 30 events independently or coordinately with other organisations and median partners.
