In the span of barely ten years, Alexandre Monteiro aka HOPARE has become, at less than 35 years of age, an emblematic figure in urban art.
He is part of a movement, that of street art, where it was shaped, structured, formed and built. Unable to conform to a single artistic trend, Hopare transcends all his potential with this vital desire to contribute and express his singularity. He wields a real creative genius that magically touches on all forms of artistic expression: canvases, murals, sculptures and azulejos. An artistic impulse that compensates for a void left by the history of a fragile society, Hopare is driven by the idea of reconstruction, suture, link and creativity as a vector of hope.
What sets it apart is the dazzling, generous beauty of the figurative in all its work. HOPARE’s portraits vibrate with an immense humanity. He combines the power of the emotion transmitted by the gaze with the technicality of the lines and the effects of the materials on his canvases, while at the same time combining the lightness and rigour that he imposes on himself.
He depicts different genres, stepping out of his comfort zone to explore the unknown, the void and renewal, imbued with an immeasurable humility. Like a traveller in search of his promised land, Hopare is always on the move, ‘no borders separate us’, his encounters along the way are his works.
Freedom is the meaning he gives to his life and his career. His powerful works have won over collectors the world over.
