This exhibition presents Mr Kosuge Tatsunosuke Mouse Arts paintings of Shonan, a popular coastal area about 50 km from central Tokyo.
Kamakura, which is visited by many foreigners, was the seat of the shogunate in the 12th century and is as historic as Kyoto, with its existing shrines and temples being popular attractions. The view of Enoshima Island and Mount Fuji from Inamuragasaki on the seafront is a familiar angle that ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige competed to paint in the 18th century. In modern times, the railway crossing and tramway Enoden seen in the opening of the anime Slam Dunk, which is also popular in Hong Kong, and Southern All Stars, who hail from Chigasaki and have been active for over 40 years, have created songs about the area, including Eboshi-iwa, and are loved by all generations and across borders
