Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong presents the exhibition named “Korean Crafts: The Art of Workmanship”, which showcases Korean contemporary craftworks that reflect the longstanding history and culture of Korean crafts against the beautiful nature of Korea’s Gangwon Province, where the festival of 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games was hosted. The exhibition will display ceramics (glass), metal, mother-of-pearl, wood lacquerware, textile (Hanji) crafts and jewelry of 24 Korean craftsmen who continued endless experiments and researches on natural materials, traditional techniques and methods of expression.
It also showcases contemporary jewelry artists who reinterpreted original materials used in Korean traditional crafts. The art jewelry was transformed into daily crafts through the re-interpretation of Korean ancestors’ wisdom with contemporary perspective. It will serve as an opportunity for us to take a look into the potential promise of Korean crafts, which creates the tradition of today based on the spirit of ‘Constancy and Change: creating the new based on the foundation of the old’.
