Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, “Jockey Club Project Well-being” worked with 31 schools in Hong Kong to create school environments that support well-being through design thinking and participatory design.
School life can be joyful and fulfilling, yet it can sometimes be overwhelming. The school is just like students’ second home, and how can we make this home a better and happier place?
In search of the answer, the Place-making team of “Jockey Club Project Well-being” listened to 1000 students and 400 teachers about their needs and co-designed creative solutions with them: including farming garden, well-being hub, kitten cafe, mindfulness corner, enhanced play zones, canteens, etc.
The process entailed a series of design thinking and participatory design workshops hosted by passionate designers who genuinely believe in human-centric design. As a result, students and teachers were empowered to shape their school environment actively.
“Jockey Club Project Welling Being: Place-making in school” Symposium cum Workshops will be held on 14 Jan 2023 at the Qube, PMQ to celebrate the result and knowledge gained from the place-making process. During the Symposium, we will discuss what Well-being and Place-making at schools are and how design thinking and participatory design help to build the school community. The project would like to demonstrate a new paradigm of “participatory” school culture that creates a stronger sense of belonging and valuable social bonds.
The symposium will conduct in Cantonese and hybrid mode.
In the afternoon session, we will hold a tasting workshop with our design consultants on design thinking and participatory design to brainstorm and co-create the possible well-being school in the future. The roving exhibition will be held at the same time at the Qube, PMQ for public visits, which include a series of guided tours.
