Brand Introduction
Karen Aruba Art is an art brand founded by Karen in 2015 with a back-story as unique as the illustration she produces. As a self-taught artist based in Hong Kong, Karen learned her art mainly through observation and practices, with a good dose of enthusiasm thrown in. At DesignInspire 2017, Karen was the sole Hong Kong representative among ten international designers to present her story and creativity in the “”Design without Boundaries”" exhibition zone. Influenced by her family’s mahjong business with skills passed down from her grandfather, Karen’s illustrations are centred on the traditional mahjong craftsmanship. She bridges the gap between traditional cultures and modern lifestyles and passes the skills from the old generation to the new.

How to Make Mahjong – from craftsmanship to artistry
Inspired by family ties in the mahjong tile manufacturing business since 1950s, Karen Aruba Art presents the ‘How to Make Mahjong’ story – an intimate tale that combines family heritage and Hong Kong culture, showcasing how this city’s old tradition of mahjong craftsmanship is transformed into artistry, and how her illustrations can easily integrate into any home decor setting – even a single print – thanks to advanced technology! Creativity, originality, value-adding: that is the faith of Karen Aruba Art to spread this around the world.
