Japanese x Hong Kong couple share food culture
Enjoy Japanese light meal in teatime

Ramen, Udon, sushi… These Japanese dishes are “comfort food” for many Hong Kong people. Besides that, do you know how many Cantonese that have come from Japanese and have taken root in Hong Kong and are related to food?

Many of the Japanese words have become common because of the products related, such as the “炒丁caau2 ding1″ and “撈丁lou 1 ding1″. 丁ding1 has been commonly used in Cha chaan tengs so native Hong Kong people will understand the meaning (referring to instant noodles NISSIN Instant Noodles出前一丁), but the Japanese do not understand. In addition, 食和牛 (eat Wagyu), 放題 (buffet), irasshaimase (often abbreviated as 21314, meaning “Welcome”), these advertising or commercial terms are all Japanese that we see and hear in Hong Kong every day.

Japanese x Hong Kong couple Kataoka Shin and Li Yan-ping will share the their book “Hong Kong Japanese” at this event. They will also share their language and cultural experience in Hong Kong with Kanatin, a Japanese girl who has lived in Hong Kong for five years and now lives in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, and likes to cook Japanese food with Hong Kong organic vegetables. They are also going to share some mysterious Japanese that we often see on Japanese food packaging. Finally, we invite you to sit together and enjoy a Japanese light meal prepared by Katatin, while speaking Hong Kong Japanese.
