“Free as Leaves” is the first solo exhibition by Yao Cheuk Ni.

The nine paintings in the exhibition explore the dialogue around the kitchen – a site that embodies idleness and labours, creativity and order, freedom and confinement, love and hate, etc.

Slowly but not still, she applies thin layers of acrylic paint to generate a spectrum of colours. If the time of making influences the time of viewing, Yao hopes that her works can make the viewers settle into a contemplative pace.
