Materials are an integral part of fashion and accessories. A unique material often takes a piece of garment or accessory to the next level. How do we incorporate special materials into fashion without eclipsing the design?
Our speakers will share with us their experience of incorporating craftsmanship in their collection, and how it not only becomes their signature but also carves out a niche for their brands.
Biography of speakers:
Master ITOHEN
ITOHEN UNIVERSE STUDIO is a diverse team of textile and dye artists, writers, weavers, and Nishijin gasuri textile specialists. With intricate craftsmanship, the Studio creates Nishijin gasuri with splendid and vibrant designs as well as other products utilizing traditional crafts of weaving and dyeing textiles.
Matt Hui
Matt graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and has since worked for luxury fashion brands and local design brands alike.
He was awarded DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award 2010 with a scholarship that enabled him to pursue further studies in the Royal College of Art, a top design institute in the UK. During his studies in London, he gained work opportunities at brands such as Apu Jan and Pringle of Scotland. In 2017, Matt co-founded YLYstudio, specializing in knitting, embroidery and contemporary application of traditional craftsmanship. He is also the founder of Maokids which focuses on customized products for pet slaves.
