About PMQ

PMQ – Creativity at a New Address

Before revitalisation, PMQ was built in 1951 as the Police Married Quarters. In November 2010, the HKSAR Government announced the plan to preserve the site for creative industries uses.

The operating right was awarded to PMQ Management Co, Ltd, a non-profit-making social enterprise set up by the Musketeers Education and Culture Charitable Foundation Ltd., in collaboration with the Hong Kong Design Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Hong Kong Design Institute of the Vocational Training Council.

We strive to:
  • establish PMQ as an ICON of Hong Kong creative industries that shines in the region;
  • showcase HK's high quality brands and build success in the international market; and
  • elevate the appreciation of the value created by design and innovation

Our major task is to transform a historical compound and develop it into a unique hub of broad appeal to serve the evolving creative industries. To do this, we champion Enterprising Creativity (turning Creativity to Business) and nurture local create-preneurs and designers. Moreover, we promote appreciation of creativity to the community.

How we finance

Running as a self-financing, non-profit-making social enterprise, we receive donation from the Musketeers Education and Culture Charitable Foundation Ltd., amounted to HK$100 million for the implementation of the project and future day-to-day operation of the revitalised site.

Given the Government financed the essential structural and building services works of the revitalisation, we as the Operator are responsible for renovation and interior decoration beyond the Government works, including the construction of the Underground Interpretation Area, air-conditioning, equipment & furniture for The Cube and communal space, etc. Read more about Government Support.

To ensure PMQ’s stable and continuous operation, we need recurrent income to finance the project. Therefore, the rental of Restaurants & Shops and Studio Units is essential to support the operating expenditure for management, operation and maintenance of the revitalised site.

Donor:

The Foundation was co-founded by Messrs Stanley Chu, Lawrence Fung and Leong Ka-chai in 2008. It is a non-profit-making charity committed to promoting creativity, education, arts and culture. It donates HK$100 million to PMQ for the implementation of the project and future day-to-day operation of the revitalised Site.
